Bulgaria’s asylum system has become a regime of deterrence built on humiliation, neglect and institutional violence. Drawing on testimonies from The Bulgarian Way report, this article explores pushbacks, abuse, corruption risks, organised crime, the failure of integration policies, and the wider European shift from protection toward exclusion and fear-based migration governance.
