Subtitler (Volunteer)

Are you an advocate for refugees’ rights and want to help make a difference? Do you have experience in translating and subtitling for grassroots organisations? Then we are looking for you!

Europe Must Act (EMA), a growing European movement advocating for fair and humane migration policies, is currently looking for subtitlers who can work out of English into a variety of languages. This is an online volunteering (unpaid) position.

We act with empathy, hope and passion, and are united by our commitment to challenge indifference and tackle human rights abuses. We seek change on many levels by speaking up with people on the move, engaging with European citizens and holding authorities accountable.

Responsibilities:

  • Your main project will be subtitling our Raising Voices YouTube content out of English into other languages. We would like this content to be accessible to as many people as possible and so we are looking to get as many languages as we can. There is a lot of content, so we expect this to take a few months.

  • Potentially helping with other translation needs, e.g. translating consent forms

Requirements:

  • Fluent in English and at least one other language

  • Experience with translation

  • Experience with subtitling conventions, or willingness to learn

  • Good knowledge of the European migration context

  • Ability to work independently and in a multicultural team

  • Time requirement: approx 4-5 hours/week for minimum 6 months

  • Desired: Previous experience working with people on the move

Why volunteer with us?

  • Being part of a growing Europe-wide social movement

  • Working and meeting with volunteers and activists across Europe and growing your network

  • Participating in professional training

  • Working in a multicultural, diverse and fun work environment

  • Broadening your CV (a reference can be provided)

If you are interested in applying for the position, or have any questions, please send us an email at onboardme@europemustact.org explaining your motivation and background, and what languages you work with.
